UG MANAGEMENT SUED OVER SRC ELECTIONS

The management of the University  of Ghana have been dragged to the Accra High Court by the SRC President Elect, Prince Asumadu over deliberate attempt to twist the outcome of the SRC elections held on October 29th 2021.

The petition is praying the court to order management to declare the ruling by the he Regina Apaloo Led Judicial Board as moot and unconditional since the School management, through the University of Ghana Legal Council, Pro VC ASA and Dean of Students Affairs, had earlier declared the said board as non-existing.

It will be remembered that, on November 11th 2021, the University of Ghana Legal Council in a memorandum to the Management of the University, through the Pro VC  BY ASA and the Dean of Students analyzed that, the Dean of Student Affairs has the jurisdiction to set up an Ad-Hoc committee since the Judicial Board was not in existence. The memorandum also stated that, the Management of the University will abide by the Report and Recommendations by the Ad-Hoc committee and as such, it is strange, unfortunate and suspicious that the University has boycotted the memorandum by the Legal Council and has decided to abide by the ruling an non-existing Judicial Board.

The Accra High Court has further granted and put an interlocutory Injunction on the SRC transition processes. The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Godfred Alufar Bopkin, the University Registrar Mrs.Emelia Agyei Mensah, The Vice Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and the Chairperson of the SRC Judicial Board, Miss Regina Apaloo have been served with the Interlocutory Injunction and the Notice of Writ.
